Deep Dive into IBM Domino Security Part 1: Password Hashes

Over the past few years, we’ve had the opportunity to discuss Domino security at various conferences, as well as exchange views with customers about security in the IBM software space. After all of this, a valid question remains: “Is your environment as secure as possible?”

We’ve decided that a blogpost series outlining key aspects of Domino security would be a great way to help you answer that question with a confident “Yes!” And since we’ll be discussing all things security, we’re going to cover securing Domino servers from both the inside and out. This first installment will start with the outside and focus specifically on an important aspect of web security: how hashing relates to HTTP passwords and web authentication.

Automation code

Ready-to-work automation script: Retrieve a full report of all ACL attributes and roles for ALL databases on a server

Try it out for yourself in aclEZ! Running this small script will load all databases on a server and then export a report of all ACL attributes and roles to an HTML file.

To see this and other examples, as well as learn more about the potential automation can hold for you, see our Automation Primer page.

Here's how to get started: Simply copy/paste the script below into any text editor and save it as an XML file. Within the script, enter your server name where indicated. From aclEZ's Server menu, select the option Load Automation file (or use CTRL+X), find the file you just saved, and click Open.

Script

<ytriaAutomation Application="aclEZ" ApplicationVersion="16.5">
<onError continue="True"/>
<Echo Mode="False"/>
<!--In this next line a variable will be set for the server to load.
Simply change this variable value to accommodate your needs.-->

<SetVar srv="Enter your sever name here"/>
<!-- Initialize -->
<Load Server="{%srv%}" select="true"/>
<Export Type="FlagsAndRoles">
<SetParam target="ExportToFile" field="FilePath" value="aclEZ_export.html"/>
<SetParam target="ExportToFile" field="ExportType" value="HTML"/>
<SetParam target="ExportToFile" field="FileOutput" value="Unicode"/>
<SetParam target="ExportToFile" field="OpenFileOnceGenerated" value="true"/>
</Export>
