Tips and Tricks #1

You have item entries with the exact same value in multiple documents, and want to be able to quickly select them all. Using a combination of scanEZ's Change Displayed Title and Select All Duplicates features—you can.

First, use the Change Displayed Title feature to show (in the scanEZ Selection Tree) the item value that you want to find identical (or duplicate) values for. You can choose a field value to be displayed, or create a computed formula as your displayed title. This step is needed to show the information in the Selection Tree, which you will then search using the Select All Duplicates feature.

Once the Change Displayed Title step is completed, use the Select All Duplicates command in the scanEZ right-click menu to quickly make a checkbox selection of items with identical displayed titles.

In the Select All Duplicates window that appears, use the options to select documents based on your needs (select on duplicate item values across all categories, or to just within the same category).

Depending on the option you select, scanEZ will select duplicates across all categories or just in the same category (see different results below).

Tips and Tricks #2

If you switch ID files often, (and not just your own IDs) there is a workaround you can use to make things easier for you:

Create a copy of your notes.ini and rename it.
In the chosen notes.ini file, edit the KeyFilename entry to select a different ID file.
Create a Windows Shortcut to the scanEZ.exe file, and in the shortcut properties target the path of the notes.ini file (example you could target: C:\Notes\scanEZ.exe "=C:\Notes\notes2.ini").
Use the shortcut to open scanEZ with the desired ID.

So if you have multiple ID files, you can create multiple scanEZ shortcuts all on your Windows Desktop, with each shortcut opening scanEZ using a different ID file.
