One of the most overlooked features of scanEZ (a very useful and simple one too) is the Change displayed title ability. This description does not sound like much at first, but it's worth a closer look.

When you open scanEZ on a database, the documents in the explorer (as seen in the image below) are organized by Form name. The form name is not very descriptive if you are looking for a specific document among hundreds or even thousands.

Right-click to begin the Change displayed title process.

The Change displayed title window (not shown) lets you choose an item to use as your title in the explorer view. In this demo mail database, we will use the item called Subject (the subject field in an email message). Click OK to show the result below.

And voila, all your documents are now shown by the contents of their Subject field.

You can also enter a formula (instead of just an item), to be used as a title. The use of formulas opens up endless possibilities (i.e. Notes ID, UNID etc.) in how you want your documents to be displayed in the explorer. It's almost like creating views-on-the-fly, since no views or agents are ever required to do this.
