Secrets That Are Guaranteed To Save You Time

How to see the content of a Rich Text field, and delete "corrupted" elements

Select any Notes database (email, personal address book, applications etc.) on your workspace, open scanEZ from the Notes client toolbar. Click to expand the Documents tree. Select any document from the list to see its actual contents and field values.

For example, select a field with Rich Text in it. Select the Advanced Mode radio option in the Field Value tab. In the list of composite items you can look for the component of this RichText called CDElement. You can then delete the CDElement(s) that are causing problems.

At times Notes can refuse to open a Rich Text field (usually, it refuses to even open the document), this can happen when the RichText field has been corrupted, meaning something in its structure is not valid anymore. But, with scanEZ, you can still access the document.

An example problem is when the image structure is incomplete (usually when the RichText spans over several fields). Deleting the incomplete image structure allows you to reopen the document.
