Secrets That Are Guaranteed To Save You Time

How can I see private views, private folders, and private agents? For other users?

As you may already know, private views and folders are in fact protected by a Reader field. With scanEZ we use two ways to get the list of design elements in a database: the quick way and the hard way.

1- The quick way uses the internal Design Collection (a view, in fact). It is fast and efficient, but it does not list all designs elements: you won't see any private design elements, nor the special Agent Data elements.

2- The hard way uses a basic NSFSearch query. It will show you all that you are allowed to see, but on big databases this can take a lot of time.

Remember that if the database is on the server you will only be able to see your own private views/folders . However, if you are working on a local copy of the database, then you will be able to see everything.

Note: If the database is on a server the only work-around is to have a Full Administrator Access session on the server.

In practice, select any Notes database (email, personal address book, applications etc.) on your workspace, open scanEZ from the Notes client toolbar. Click to expand the Designs tree. To see private views, private folders, and private agents go to the Designs category and uncheck the Use Design Collection Note check box (right panel), as seen in the image below. The private design views, folders and agents are easily identified with a red letter "P" in the explorer tree.
